GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS & OSCAR DE LA HOYA MOURN THE LOSS OF BOXING’S FIRST LADY, LORRAINE CHARGIN

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 7, 2010) – Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Lorraine Chargin on April 6.  GBP had an extremely close working and personal relationship with Lorraine and her husband Don.  Both Lorraine and Don were instrumental in building Golden Boy Promotions to where it is today through their invaluable advice and guidance with respect to all aspects of fight promotion.  Their expert input on matchmaking decisions was instrumental during the formative years of GBP.

Lorraine was referred to as the First Lady of Boxing as a result of her tireless work in the sport for forty-plus years.  She was the backbone of Don Chargin Productions and a true testament to the saying “behind every great man there is a great woman.”  The love and bond between Lorraine and Don and the sport of boxing was a positive beacon for everyone in the business and will be greatly missed by all of us.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lorraine Chargin,” said Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions.  “We have always respected the relationship that Don and Lorraine had with each other and believe that everyone in boxing can learn from what they have accomplished together and in the sport.  Lorraine was a woman of integrity who had a tremendous heart and loved the world she lived in.  We will miss her and send our condolences to Don and the entire Chargin family, who are in our prayers during this difficult time.”

Sincerely,

Oscar and Millie de la Hoya and the staff of Golden Boy Promotions
