Exclusive Interview with Austin Trout

Austin Trout -“No Doubt Trouts team wants a good fight in October, so I’m calling Pawel Wolak out.”

By Gabriel Barrio

Interviewing Austin Trout is that unlike interviewing any other professional athlete. He is professional and straight forward and unafraid to be unapologetically himself. He is incredibly knowledgable about his craft, he has many insights about how to improve his game, the whole arena of boxing. Above all else he is honest, candid and humble. If other boxing greats were as real as Austin Trout they would also have a loyal following that would support them as Austin Trout’s fans support him. A local legend in the Southwest, and an underground superstar that is about to breakthrough into the mainstream. He was accompanied by his daughter Kaira to this interview who is charismatic as her father. The interview had a feeling of comfortability and was conducted quickly and professionally. Austin Trout has many stories and has had many obstacles but none have obscured his sight from the main goal of attaining each belt in his weight division. He has a drive that is unmatched and that shows in his speech, his demeanor and his faith. His faith in God, his love for his family and his respect for his fans rings true every time I have had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Trout. In his own words he explains where he is headed, how he will get there and what will happen when he meets opposition.

GB:First of all how do you feel coming off that win with David Lopez?

AT: It was a great fight, after I won that fight my rankings jumped like ten spots. From 17
to 7 on boxrec.com, top ten in light middleweight division for most rankings. I was very
happy with that. He was a tough cat (sic), I know I could do that again. He hadn’t lost his
last sixteen fights.

GB: What was the controversy over the drug test in Mexico?

AT: There are no drugs or alcohol in my body, I am always ready to fight. I just don’t do
it. When it came time for that drug test and I submitted my test, I was waiting to sign the
paper saying that this is my test, and then seal it and label it. They didn’t have me sign
anything and when I asked him if he was going to seal it, he basically told me that it was
ok, saying “Esta Bien, todo bueno.” I took the test but they didn’t have me sign anything,
so my manager told me that if something popped up that isn’t your test. They didn’t seal
it, sign it, and there was no chain of custody. So when I came home, I took a test and
submitted under the regulations. It came out negative.

Six Questions with Heavyweight KO Artist Joey Abell, Who Battles Cristobal Arreola on ESPN2 Friday Night at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.

Los Angeles, CA  – Twenty-Six knockouts in his 27 wins would qualify calling Joey Abell (27-4, 26 KOs) a “Knockout Artist.”  This Friday night, the “Knockout Artist” looks to make a big heavyweight statement when he takes on his toughest and most notable opponent of his career in world-rated contender Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.  The scheduled 10-round co-main event will be televised on ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights.”

We go “Inside the Mind” of the hard-hitting southpaw known as “Minnesota Ice” with “Six Questions” concerning this showdown:

QUESTION #1:  Best training camp?

ABELL: “Definitely! It went really well.  With many of my other fights, I really didn’t get enough time in between to have a real heavyweight training camp. This camp no excuses.  I had much longer to prepare this time and got in lots of sparring and really worked on my endurance and got everything I needed to win.”

Exclusive Interview – Steve “USS” Cunningham

By Jeremy Pepito and Boxing Community

Jeremy Pepito – So Steve, how was your holidays?
Steve Cunningham -Pretty good!

Jeremy – I see you added a new addition to the family, congratulations on that!
Steve – Thank you.

Jeremy - How’s your preparation coming along for the fight?
Steve – Oh, everything is going great! The sparring, good game plan, retain my title and move on to other things, great things.

Jeremy – What do you know about your opponent and what’s your game plan? You don’t have to tell us everything.
Steve – He’s a good fighter, 19 wins just 2 losses to some decent guys, he is from Serbia but he lives in Germany, we are promoted by the same promoting  team, so the fight was easy to put together. Decent dude, nobody to underestimate at all. I’m not underestimating anybody at this level. The game plan is to WIN and put on a good win!

Jeremy – What did you think about the Huck vs. Lebedev verdict?
Steve – I’m not a judge or anything, I know how to fight but I’m not a judge. I thought Lebedev won that fight. Hands down, eight rounds to probably four, To tell you the truth I wasn’t at the fight. I don’t know man, I thought Lebedev won, I’m not even gonna play political, I thought Lebedev won. I just thought Huck was running the whole entire time, he wasn’t busy enough throwing enough punches to get Lebedev. Lebedev was throwing more punches he pressured him, he connected more. Huck did wobble him a few times but still that’s not enough to win. I didn’t think he did enough to take the titled but he got the belt so we gotta move on.

Interview with Boxing’s Austin Trout

Interview with Boxing’s Austin Trout

The story of Austin Trout is a classic story of a fighter with the heart, determination and faith to beat all odds. Austin Trout started boxing at very young age in the little known city of Las Cruces. Inspired by the greats in boxing, he made every effort to become a legendary boxer himself. He fought an extensive amateur career before going pro in the year 2005. Quickly Austin garnered attention with each fight leaving his opponents by the way side and making another stride towards the ultimate goal of being the champion.

Over the years since 2005 Austin has met with obstacles that would test his skill, his talent, his patience, and his determination. As I write this article, the news comes that the Austin Trout Vs. Nobuhiro Ishida fight will not happen as was tentatively scheduled for August 28th; one of many events that have become stepping stones for him as a boxer as he waits for his chance to show the boxing circuit and the world that he deserves to be at the top. Even so, at 21 wins, 0 losses, and 0 draws with 13 wins by the way of knockout, Austin Trout is a force to be reckoned with in the light middleweight division. When seeing him fight he is calm, collected, accurate and powerful, with the ability to go the distance in each fight but with the power to finish fights early.
