UNDEFEATED THOMPSON SQUARES OFF AGAINST JAPAN’S TOP-RANKED HEAVYWEIGHT TAKEHARA AT BATTLE AT THE BOAT 83
TACOMA, Wash. – Undefeated Tacoma heavyweight Vincent Thompson steps back into the ring on August 27 when he faces Masataka Takehara in the main event of Battle at the Boat 83 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.
Thompson improved his record to 8-0 with a unanimous decision over Kelsey Arnold on June 4.
In addition to his victory over Arnold, Vincent also scored an impressive victory over the previously unbeaten Charles Ellis, a former 2003 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion on Nov. 13, 2010.
Thompson, however, will face his toughest challenge to date in Takehara, a former national champion and the No. 1 ranked heavyweight in Japan.
“This is a big step for Vincent,” said promoter Brian Halquist, “but he’s handled everything that has been thrown at him. He keeps improving with every fight. Takehara won’t back down. It’s going to be an exciting fight.”

Albuquerque, New Mexico - The biggest fight card in New Mexico history is in the books, as MMA Fight Pit: “Genesis” took place at “The Pit” in Albuquerque Saturday night. In the main event, Houston “The Assassin” Alexander took home a TKO victory over “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan. The ringside doctor, after looking over Al-Hassan’s finger, deemed it severely dislocated, and was unable to put it back in place, which forced the stoppage. It was an unfortunate ending to what was shaping up to be an exciting bout. Both fighters had landed some good shots.
Regarding the fight, Alexander said, “We just took our time and got back to boxing. We used a new technique and it worked. My conditioning was great, I was ready. I’m disappointed in the early stoppage but it happens. But the atmosphere…it was amazing. I can’t describe it. I walked in and it was crazy. It was a great time.”
Al-Hassan was understandably disappointed with the way the fight turned out, and talked about the conclusion of the bout. “At some point during the second round I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t make a fist when I was throwing my jab. At the end of the second I went back to my corner and looked down at my hand and realized my finger was either dislocated or broken. The doctor came and took a look at it and stopped the fight. But I thought the fight was going fine. I thought we were pretty even. I thought the first round went to him. I felt that I did better in the second round and I felt I landed more in the second so it was probably even [at that point].”

LAS VEGAS – In a great action fight Saturday marred by puzzling officiating by the referee that left fans at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, those watching on SHOWTIME® and the telecast team themselves totally perplexed, Abner Mares won The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title with a majority 12-round decision over defending IBF titlist Joseph King Kong Agbeko.
The unbeaten Mares (22-0-1, 13 KOs), of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif., scored two knockdowns – one in the first and one in the 11th that was one hotly disputed – en route to outpointing the New York-based Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs) of Ghana by the scores of 115-111 twice and 113-113.

Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA): The biggest fight card in New Mexico history is now official, as the weigh-ins for MMA Fight Pit “Genesis” took place earlier today at the Library Bar & Grill in downtown Albuquerque. All fighters have been cleared by the New Mexico State Athletic Commission. “Genesis” takes place tomorrow, Saturday, August 13th at world-renowned sporting venue “The Pit,” and is also being broadcasted live on Pay-Per-View.
