LOS ANGELES  – The summer boxing scene is coming to a close, but when “Fight Night Club” returns to L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia this Thursday, August 25, Golden Boy Promotions and AEG will be bringing the heat with five hard-hitting bouts that will keep Southern California fight fans cheering from start to finish.

In the six round lightweight main event, top Southern California prospects Hector Serrano (13-2, 5 KO’s) of Huntington Park and Juan Garcia (14-3, 5 KO’s) of Los Angeles collide in a pivotal meeting of local rising stars looking for Los Angeles-area bragging rights.

In the co-featured bout of the evening, also scheduled for six rounds in the lightweight division, proud East Los Angeles prospect Ramon Valadez (9-1, 5 KO’s) makes his eighth “Fight Night Club” appearance, this time facing the always-tough Nogales, Mexico battler Noe Lopez Jr. (8-9, 5 KO’s).

LAS VEGAS  – In a great action fight Saturday marred by puzzling officiating by the referee that left fans at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, those watching on SHOWTIME® and the telecast team themselves totally perplexed, Abner Mares won The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title with a majority 12-round decision over defending IBF titlist Joseph King Kong Agbeko.

The unbeaten Mares (22-0-1, 13 KOs), of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif., scored two knockdowns –  one in the first and one in the 11th that was one hotly disputed – en route to outpointing the New York-based Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs) of Ghana by the scores of 115-111 twice and 113-113.

LAS VEGAS  – You beat the best, you are the best and this Saturday, Aug. 13, the best bantamweight in the world will emerge when finalists Joseph King Kong Agbeko and Abner Mares clash in The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

The highly anticipated matchup for Agbeko’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight title and the promising, unbeaten Mares’ WBC Silver championship belt will take place at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Agbeko, of Bronx, N.Y., by way of Accra, Ghana, will bring a record of 28-2 with 22 KOs into the 12-round bout. Mares, of Hawaiian Gardens, Calif., by way of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, is 21-0-1 with 13 stoppages.

Tickets, priced at $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25, along with a limited number of VIP suite seats priced at $150, are available at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at www.Ticketmaster.com or by phone (800) 745-3000.

Doors open Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The first non-televised undercard fight starts at 3:30 p.m.

Agbeko and Mares were scheduled to meet last April 23, but the fight was postponed when Agbeko was injured moments after his arrival at Los Angeles International Airport for fight week. Doctors diagnosed the champion with sudden onset sciatica, a back injury.

Undefeated lightweight rising star Luis Ramos Jr., (19-0, 8 KO’s), of Santa Ana, Calif., and

“Dangerous” David Rodela (15-4-4, 6 KO’s), of Oxnard, Calif., also participated in Thursday’s workout in preparation for their 10-round lightweight bout on the Aug. 13 non-televised undercard.
