LOS ANGELES  – Undefeated rising star and World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver 118-pound titleholder Abner Mares participated in a Los Angeles media workout on Thursday, just nine days before he will take on International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champ Joseph King Kong Agbeko in The Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All on Saturday, August 13, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Undefeated lightweight rising star Luis Ramos Jr., (19-0, 8 KO’s), of Santa Ana, Calif., and

“Dangerous” David Rodela (15-4-4, 6 KO’s), of Oxnard, Calif., also participated in Thursday’s workout in preparation for their 10-round lightweight bout on the Aug. 13 non-televised undercard. Undefeated and heralded prospect Carlos Molina (14-0, 7 KO’s) of Norwalk, Calif., participated in the workout and will face an opponent to be named in an eight round junior welterweight bout.

The world championship event is promoted by Don King Productions and Golden Boy Promotions and is sponsored by Corona.

In what most expect will be a can’t miss candidate for Fight of the Year, the unbeaten Rios (27-0-1, 19 KOs) will defend his WBA lightweight championship against Antillon (28-2, 20 KOs) in the highly anticipated main event on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

Rios weighed the division-limit 135 pounds Friday at a jam-packed Holiday Inn Torrance (Calif.) while Antillon tipped the scale at 134 3/4 pounds.

008: In the Top Rank-promoted co-feature at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KOs), pictured at the left, will take on Mexico’s Carlos Molina (18-4-2, 6 KOs) in a 10-round junior middleweight scrap.

Cintron weighed 149 1/4 pounds on Friday; Molina weighed 151 3/4.

The telecast also will include highlights from overseas as IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (28-0, 23 KOs) defends against mandatory challenger Jean-Paul Mendy (29-0-1, 16 KOs).

DAVID RODELA INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT AND FORCED TO WITHDRAW FROM FIGHT AGAINST CARLOS MOLINA

LOS ANGELES - Due to a minor injuries sustained in a recent car accident, Oxnard’s “Dangerous” David Rodela has been forced to withdraw from his Thursday, November 18 bout against Norwalk’s Carlos Molina at L.A. LIVE’s Club Nokia.  Stepping in for Rodela to face the unbeaten Molina will be Puerto Rico’s John Figueroa.

Figueroa (7-7-3, 3 KO’s), who hails from Salinas, Puerto Rico, will be fighting on the West Coast for the second time this year when he faces Molina.  His last bout was a hard-fought decision loss to Santa Ana’s top prospect Luis Ramos on September 17.  Molina vs. Figueroa will the eight-round junior welterweight main event at the 2010 season finale of “Fight Night Club.”
