“STAR POWER” GETS AN ALL-MEXICO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN UNBEATEN PABLO CESAR CANO REPLACES LUCAS MATTHYSSE IN WBC TITLE BOUT AGAINST ERIK MORALES
LOS ANGELES - Mexico City’s Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano, the WBC’s leading available contender and a young and hungry Mexican phenom has agreed to step in and face Erik Morales on next Saturday’s “STAR POWER” mega-event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View®. Cano got his chance after Morales’ original opponent, Lucas Matthysse, withdrew from the bout earlier in the week due to a viral infection.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t refuse it,” said the 21-year-old Cano who will face Morales for the WBC Super Lightweight World Championship. “I have grown up watching Erik Morales. I know both his strengths and weaknesses. While it’s an honor to fight him, I have the style to beat him and win my first world championship, which is the dream of every fighter.”

Post-Fight Ring Quotes
Devon Alexander: “Matthysse is a rough and tough fighter. I brought the fight out in me because people had their doubts about my abilities as a boxer.
“The knockdown [first of his career] was a flash knockdown [in the fourth round]. I had to pull it out. I was having flashbacks from my last fight with Bradley, and I wasn’t going to lose two fights in a row. As a matter of fact, I’m never going to lose again.”
Kevin Cunningham: (trainer and manager of Devon Alexander) “I didn’t enjoy watching a rugged, tough guy like Matthysse in there with my fighter. I knew it was gonna be tough. I didn’t want to see my fighter trading with a puncher like Matthysse, but because of all the criticism he took after the Bradley fight, he felt he had something to prove in his hometown.
“I think when Devon reviews the tape of the fight, he’ll see that he was at his most effective when he was using his boxing skills to the fullest.”

Hometown Star Ready for Argentine Knockout Artist
ST. CHARLES, Mo.—Twenty-four-year-old Devon Alexander “The Great” (21-1, 13 KOs) walked into his St. Louis gym today for a media workout looking like a mature fighter who knows what is at stake in his 140-pound showdown against Argentine knockout artist Lucas Matthysse on Saturday at The Family Arena in nearby St. Charles (HBO: 9:45 p.m. ET/PT)
When asked about his first loss, suffered at the hands of Timothy Bradley in a pivotal match designed to help determine supremacy at the 140-pound weight limit, Alexander was resolute in his reply.
“I want to show people why I was considered one of the best at 140 pounds,” Alexander said, “and I want those people who believed in me to know that they were not wrong.

Devon Alexander, Lucas Matthysse, Tavoris Cloud and Yusaf Mack
TAVORIS CLOUD: I have been training 8 weeks for this fight. My game plan going in is to win the fight.
YUSAF MACK: I am working in the gym and looking for a win. Tavoris is a rough fighter and I’m just looking for a win and a good fight. He brings it and that is the type of fighter I like to fight. We are going to give the fans what they want to see. Come the 25th at the end of the fight I am going to have my hand raised.
You have a recent common opponent in Glen Johnson. Does that have any bearing on this fight?
YUSAF MACK: It is just the style of fight. Going in, I thought Johnson was old but in this fight I will stick to my game plan to win. I took Glen for granted. I should have looked right in front of me and taken care of business. This fight is going to be different and I’m going to show the world.
TAVORIS CLOUD: I looked at it and initially I dismiss that fight but still keep it inside my head that if he starts to fold under pressure, I go about things as usual. I am not expecting the same fighter. He had time to learn from his mistakes. I am expecting a better fighter since he is fighting for a world championship. I am expecting the best Yusaf Mack we have ever seen.
