LUCAS MATTHYSSE AND SEBASTIAN LUJAN CONTINUE TO HUNT FOR WORLD TITLES THIS FRIDAY
LOS ANGELES - Estadio Cubierto Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario, Argentina will be the place to be for Argentine boxing fans on Friday, August 27 as Lucas Matthysse and Sebastian Lujan step into the ring against seasoned foes in bouts which will be broadcast throughout Latin America on HBO Plus’ “Next Boxing Generation” and on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” in the United States and Puerto Rico.
In the 12-round main event, the WBO Latino junior welterweight title will be on the line when the unbeaten Matthysse takes on Mexican veteran Rogelio Castaneda in a highly anticipated rematch of their 2008 bout. The co-main event of the evening, scheduled for ten rounds, will see Lujan tackle Colombia’s Emilio Julio for the WBC Latino welterweight title.

CARLSTADT, NJ. (March 22, 2010) — All former junior welterweight champion Vivian Harris was hoping for was a rematch with Lucas Matthysse in order to right the wrong that he suffered during their fight in Mexico City.
On February 20th referee Gelasio Perez Huerta unjustifiably stopped the competitive contest midway into the 4th round, in what several media members agree was one of the worst stoppages they have ever seen.
An immediate televised rematch in the United States was supposedly in the works but now seems unlikely. According to Golden Boy Promotions Lucas Matthysse has turned down the fight and the opportunity to set the record straight on his tainted victory.
“He’s a coward plain and simple,” said Harris from his home in Carlstadt, New Jersey. “Why else would he and his team not want to fight me? They saw that his eye was rapidly closing and that there was a lot more fight left. They know it’s a risky fight and they probably just want to go back to fighting nobodies in Argentina. They have padded his record from the start of his career.”

It’s been a difficult past two years for Vivian Harris. Boxing politics coupled with long stretches of inactivity have plagued the former junior welterweight champion, but the proud Guyana native remains undeterred.
“I still consider myself one of the best fighters in the division,” said Harris. “I have faced some adversity these last two years but I’m still determined. I’m still hungry. I am here and I will be champion again.”
The 30-year-old Harris landed in Mexico City on Tuesday for his scheduled clash with Lucas Matthysse Saturday night at the Foro Scotiabank. Harris understands how important this fight is for his career. The winner puts himself right in the mix in the ultra talent-rich junior welterweight division.
“I’m ready to go,” said Harris Wednesday evening. “I’m fully prepared for Matthysse. This is my first step back to a world title and I will not be denied.”
The undefeated Argentine puncher Matthysse has compiled an impressive record of 25-0 with 23 KOs. His clash with Harris however, represents a significant step up in class, as thus far, his perfect record has come against mostly soft opposition.
Harris vs. Matthysse will be the co-featured bout with the Ponce De Leon vs. Orlando Cruz main event.
The card will air live in Latin America on the HBO Plus service.
