LATEST ON MEGA FIGHT: POSITVE DEVELOPMENT?

LATEST ON MEGA FIGHT: POSITVE DEVELOPMENT?

 By Reni M. Valenzuela

Money, for all its powerful hold on people, is a poor master but a good servant.

If money is the issue that remains to be solved in order to make The Fight come true, then it’s easy to deal with it for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. if only they would look at money being the lesser thing which pales in comparison with their legacy, dignity, character, integrity, people’s esteem, sports standing, true greatness and the world’s appreciation or condemnation.

BOB ARUM IS ATOP HIS THRONE!

BOB ARUM IS ATOP HIS THRONE!

By Reni M. Valenzuela

Bob Arum is atop his throne.  He has been playing god as though he has the world at his command. He is in his twilight years, yet still looks at money as though he can bring it to heaven or hell.  Leaving a great legacy like the great Muhammad Ali is normally what old people are most concerned about, but not Arum.

The Top Rank honcho is a bigwig in fight sport, a top-notch promoter with a burly Buddha stature and with so much kingly stubborn “power” to direct the destiny of the boxing world today.   Bob is different and he may not think so that he conducts himself like he is the king of kings in boxing when he, Michael Konz or the entire Pacquiao camp blurted out, “That’s crazy,”  only to insist that it’s not possible to make the biggest boxing event in history, the Mayweather-Pacquiao in May of this year because, allegedly, it doesn’t make sense “economically.”

PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ: EXCITING OR BORING

PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ: EXCITING OR BORING

By Reni M. Valenzuela

Great fights happen when styles meet their match.

The unforgettable Ali-Frazier, Barrera-Morales, Gatti-Ward, Zale-Graciano,
Holyfield-|Bowe and Leonard-Duran were exceptional trilogies that were made
under appropriate times and conditions, and with no ifs and buts. They were
among the historic bouts that showed the world how boxing matchups can be
classic and so exciting.

It was Juan Manuel Marquez that Freddie Roach feared the most as Manny
Pacquiao’s opponent that’s why they waited too long to make the trilogy if not
altogether discard the staging of it had it not been for the clamor just to determine
with finality who between the two was the better boxer and true winner. Pacquiao
had two previous closely contested bouts with Marquez which declaration of
winners could have both gone either way.

PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER DANCE: FINALLY!

PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER DANCE: FINALLY!

By Reni M. Valenzuela

Who can push a fool who never made headways to run in a race he is so proud to have conquered?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will never run out of excuses to avoid a humiliating defeat at the hands of a “poor boy” from a poor but fighting country. Delivering him the brutal beating of his life by a man he taunted and falsely accused of many things.

That’s why Floyd will not accept any offer outside of what is impossible to fight a revengeful Manny Pacquiao. Or else the fight would validate his sore points overwhelmingly enough to crush his pride to pieces and expose him further merely as a huge bluff and perfect dud as he knows perfectly well that the fight may invoke ominous
danger for him in countless ways.

SEVEN WORTHY FOES TO CHALLENGE PACMAN

SEVEN WORTHY FOES TO CHALLENGE PACMAN

By Reni M. Valenzuela

Boxing should have learned its lessons even before history repeated itself.

Except for some greedy and carnivorous pockets, what is something good for the sport and fight fans that can come out of a ring brush between a living legend in his prime and a future hall-of- famer at the tail-end of his boxing career?

We are back to the fundamentals of sport after all is said and done reviewing the just
concluded May 7th farce at the MGM Grand.

Boxing as a sport must not lose it’s element of competition for competitiveness is one
of few things that cannot be compromised in any sport with the worship of King Darius’
bust or even a reverent bow at any alluring altar of the Golden Calf down the hill of
senseless revelry in the arena of game or fight mismatches.
