NASHVILLE (Jan. 5, 2011) – Five of the fighters who will appear on Friday’s STRIKEFORCE Challengers Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink at Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., during a Free Preview Weekend on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) participated in an open media workout Wednesday.
In a highly anticipated showdown between top welterweight (170 pounds) rising stars, undefeated Tyron Woodley (7-0) will take on hard-hitting Tarec “Sponge” Saffiedine (10-2) in the main event.
Other televised fights: U.S. Olympic wrestler and undefeated heavyweight Daniel Cormier (6-0) meets Devin Cole (18-8-1), former University of Tennessee linebacker Ovince Saint Preux (9-4) will be opposed by “Abongo’’ Humphrey (7-2) at light heavyweight (205 pounds), Julia “The Jewel’’ Budd (1-0) takes on Amanda “Lioness Of The Ring’’ Nunes (5-1) in a women’s middleweight (145 pounds) match and undefeated light heavyweight and four-time U.S. National Judo Champ and 2004 U.S. Judo Olympian, Dr. Rhadi Ferguson (2-0), will throw down with John Richard (3-1) in a light heavyweight battle.

John Richard To Face Dr. Rhadi Ferguson Friday On Strikeforce Challengers
NEW YORK – Undefeated light heavyweight and four-time U.S. National Judo Champ and 2004 U.S. Judo Olympian, Dr. Rhadi Ferguson (2-0), will face John Richard (3-1) of Camden, S.C., in a featured match on the STRIKEFORCE Challengers Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink this Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., during a Free Preview Weekend live on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).
The 6-foot-1, 28-year-old Richard (pronounced “ruh-shard”) is a replacement for Canada’s Ion Cherdivara, who withdrew from the card late Tuesday due to visa problems.
Richard, a talented, explosive wrestler, has made short work of his opposition in his three victories, winning all in the first round. In his last outing on Oct. 23, he submitted (choke) Steven Banks at 1:19. In his outing before last on Aug. 28, he got Ryan Bedini to tap out via rear-naked choke at 3:38.

NEW YORK – STRIKEFORCE World Welterweight Champion and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt Nick Diaz (23-7, 1 NC) has signed a new, multi-year agreement with the San Jose, Calif. based world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my career with STRIKEFORCE,” said the dynamic 27-year-old Diaz, a protégé of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Cesar Gracie and resident of Stockton, Calif. “When I first got here, there weren’t a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that’s definitely changed. There’s a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I’m ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me.”
