HERRERA vs ALATORRE

Path to Glory On August 20th: HERRERA vs ALATORRE IN MAIN EVENT

CORONA, CA It’s an evening of hard-hitting boxing action — primarily showcasing the junior welterweight division — on Friday night, August 20 when Thompson Boxing Promotions presents a five-bout card billed as “PATH TO GLORY” at Omega Products International in Corona, California.

Three of the five bouts will be contested at 140 pounds headlined by the scheduled eight-round main event of California fighters, as Riverside’s Mauricio Herrera (14-1, 6 KOs) looks to take another step up the junior welterweight ladder when he battles rugged veteran Hector Alatorre (16-10, 5 KOs), of Tulare. The co-feature, slated for six rounds, will pit undefeated Los Angeles junior welter Chris Rizo (4-0-1, 2 KOs) against always-tough Jose Alfredo Lugo (11-13-1, 5 KOs).

Tickets for “PATH TO GLORY”, priced at $75, $45, and $30, are available now and may be purchased by calling 714-935-0900.

Herrera will be seeking his second straight win following his only career loss – a controversial split decision to Mike Anchondo in a televised bout featured on Showtime last December.  He rebounded from that setback by stopping former contender Efren Hinijosa in six rounds back in April.

In Alatorre, Herrera will face a young warrior whose career began impressively with 14 consecutive wins, but has landed in the win column just twice in his last 12 outings.  However, he has given his last two highly regarded opponents all they could handle.  First he exchanged shots with Victor Ortiz before being stopped in the 10th and final round back in February.  Most recently, he lost a hard-fought, eight-round decision to Steve Upsher Chambers two months ago.

Rizo is a young southpaw prospect mentored by renowned trainer Freddie Roach.  He returns following a 13-month absence to take on Lugo at the same venue where he sustained the only blemish on his record – a draw versus Marlo Cortez.  Despite his record, Lugo is not a boxer to be overlooked as evidenced by the draw he earned against Michael Dallas, Jr. in November 2008.

A third junior welterweight bout will open the show, as Londonderry, New Hampshire’s Jhon Ortega makes his pro debut against Ghana’s Akeem Okibode (1-3-1, 1 KO) in a scheduled four-rounder.

Also in action scheduled for four rounds is a pair of undefeated flyweights – Rancho Cucamonga’s Malcolm Franklin (2-0) versus Indio’s Javier Barragan (1-0, 1 KO) – as well as lightweights Jesse Roman (3-0, 3 KOs), of Santa Ana, taking on San Fernando’s Manuel Delcid (4-1, 1 KO).

Bouts subject to change. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the first bell rings at 7:45pm.  The Omega Products International is located at 1681 California Avenue in Corona. The Corporate Office phone number is 800-600-6634.
