REYNOSO vs. SERRANO READY FOR SOON-TO-BE-SOLD-OUT FRIDAY NIGHT!

“IRISH” MICKY WARD TO BE HONORED IN ONTARIO

Orange, Calif.  – This Friday night, September 17, Thompson Boxing Promotions will present a fight card emanating from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA in which Riverside’s Jose “El Niño” Reynoso (12-3-1, 1 KO) and Hector “Teco” Serrano (13-0, 5 KOs) will battle for the Vacant WBC Super Lightweight CABOFE Title in a scheduled 10-round main event. The card will be taped for airing on September 24 by Fox Sports en Español. Check your local listings for broadcast times.

Making a cross-country flight to be honored with a career achievement award at Friday night’s show in Ontario will be one of boxing’s most popular and exciting performers ever – “Irish” Micky Ward. Arguably among the greatest “warriors” to ever lace on the gloves, the pride of Lowell, MA, compiled a 38-13, 27 KO record in a distinguished light welterweight career that spanned 18 years (1985-2003). Ward became a popular fixture on ESPN’s boxing series appearing 27 times, and no boxing fan will ever forget the brutal life-and-death trilogy – the final three fights of his career – against the late Arturo “Thunder” Gatti! A film based on his life entitled “The Fighter” is currently in post-production and will be soon released by Paramount Pictures. Boston actor Mark Wahlberg will portray Ward in the movie and Christian Bale will play the part of Ward’s half-brother and trainer Dickie Eklund.

“I appreciate it a lot,” Ward said when asked about the recognition. “I think it’s a great thing especially with me being from a different state and across the country. It’s a tremendous honor.”

Ward is being accompanied to the fight Friday night by his good friend, boxing coach Julio Pena, who will be working the corner of his fighter, another New England-trained light welterweight — Jhon Ortega.

Remainder tickets for “LOCK ‘N LOADED III”, priced at $75, $45, and $30, are still available and may be purchased by calling 714-935-0900.

The undercard will feature a clash of undefeated California super bantamweights, with Carson’s Efrain Esquivias (9-0, 5 KOs) taking on Ephraim Martinez (4-0, 1 KO), of Salinas in a scheduled six-rounder.

Two other bouts slated for six rounds of action will pit once-beaten Artemio “King” Reyes (6-1, 5 KOs) of Riverside versus St. Louis, MN veteran Patrick Cape (6-9, 3 KOs) in a welterweight confrontation, and Jose Roman (7-0, 6 KOs), from Garden Grove, CA opposing Jesus Garnica (3-0-2, 3 KOs), from Tucson, AZ in a duel of undefeated lightweights.

Opening the will be a pair of scheduled four-rounders featuring young pros just kicking off their careers. In the evening’s first bout, Indio, CA bantamweight Diego Madrigal will debut against Jose Garcia (0-1). That will be followed by a light welterweight contest with Jhon Ortega (1-0, 1 KO) of Londonderry, NH, going up against German Bacho (0-1), from Santa Rosa, CA.

Bouts are subject to change. Doors open at 6:30pm, and the first bell rings at 7:45pm. The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 North Vineyard Avenue in Ontario. The hotel phone number is 909-937-0900.
