“STAR POWER” GETS AN ALL-MEXICO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN UNBEATEN PABLO CESAR CANO REPLACES LUCAS MATTHYSSE IN WBC TITLE BOUT AGAINST ERIK MORALES
LOS ANGELES - Mexico City’s Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano, the WBC’s leading available contender and a young and hungry Mexican phenom has agreed to step in and face Erik Morales on next Saturday’s “STAR POWER” mega-event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View®. Cano got his chance after Morales’ original opponent, Lucas Matthysse, withdrew from the bout earlier in the week due to a viral infection.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn’t refuse it,” said the 21-year-old Cano who will face Morales for the WBC Super Lightweight World Championship. “I have grown up watching Erik Morales. I know both his strengths and weaknesses. While it’s an honor to fight him, I have the style to beat him and win my first world championship, which is the dream of every fighter.”

RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION IN BOXING

For the unimaginable evils that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. did and is doing in
boxing, to his wife, father, Pacman , Golden Boy and to everyone of us,
the whole boxing world should be raging in righteous indignation by now.
No doubt, Mayweather possesses exceptional skills in boxing but just
like hiring an employee, you don’t just look at the resume submitted, you
check on the “flipside” of the person’s skills or abilities which are attitudes,
streaks and character. And more often than not, that’s where an applicant is
rejected after having passed all the other qualifications.
A certain Holyfield has just commented on an internet boxing article: “If
Mayweather, Jr. is the face of boxing today, just as he continues to insist, I
don’t want to see boxing anymore.”
Or, I would have preferred to be born a century ago to enjoy the sport and
in the process become a better man.

ANGULO: “VANES MARTIROSYAN IS A TOUGH GUY, BUT ONLY ON THE INTERNET.”
LOS ANGELES - It was going to be a November to remember for boxing fans, as Mexican knockout artist Alfredo Angulo was scheduled to make his return to the HBO airwaves for a WBC title elimination bout against unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan in a dynamite matchup of former Olympians…or so fight fans thought.
Instead, Angulo and his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, are left looking for a new opponent after Martirosyan turned the fight down.
“On one hand I’m shocked, but on the other, this doesn’t really surprise me,” said Angulo, who returned to the ring in August after a year long layoff, knocking out Joseph Gomez in 84 seconds. “Vanes Martirosyan is a tough guy, but only on the internet. He calls everybody out, says he’s not getting big fights, but then when he gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime, he turns it down. He needs to get out from behind his computer where he likes to talk about me and get into the ring where he can fight me.”
The bout was tentatively scheduled to take place in Cancun, Mexico on November 5 and was slated to be aired by HBO, giving both fighters the platform every top level fighter craves. In this case however, it was only Angulo who craved it.
“We offered him everything in this fight, the winner would fight in a WBC world title fight, neutral officials so he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable about fighting in Mexico and he would have made three times more for this fight than he’s ever made before,” said Angulo. “I guess he loves that 30-0 record more than actually fighting real fights against real fighters.”

All roads lead to Floiyd Mayweather, Jr., indeed, as he proudly claims –
to send him a serious message.
Until Mayweather stops dodging Manny Pacquiao, drops his boundless
arrogant excuses and heeds the insistent popular clamor for him to fight
Pacman, no boxing fan in his right mind would be delighted to watch any
Mayweather bout whoever his opponent may be. And nothing can be better
for the sport of boxing.
It is reported that tickets are selling slow for the September 17 welterweight
contest between Mayweather and Victor Ortiz (compared to previous
Mayweather fights) just as it has been
foreseen
that only Floyd’s
fanatical “legions” of fans and few innocent ones will watch the show.
The air is thick and heavy these days, but the silent protest over the “good”
boy of boxing gets even thicker and heavier. And if the situation persists,
expect boxing, amid thunderous showers and storms, to resurrect sooner
than anyone can think or imagine. Do yourself a favor.

Amanda Serrano steps-up to fight for IBF World title Saturday night at home in Brooklyn
NEW YORK – Unbeaten NABF Featherweight Champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano steps-up one weight class for her first world title fight, when she takes on WIBF Inter-Continental lightweight titlist Kimberly Connor in a 10-round bout for the vacant International Boxing Federation (“IBF”) junior lightweight title, Saturday night at home in Brooklyn’s Aviator Sports Complex.
“It’s wonderful,” Amanda remarked about fighting for her first world title at home in Brooklyn. “It’s nerve wracking. I’m anxious, really excited and all of these emotions are mixed-up. I’m going to have a lot of people there supporting me.”
The 23-year-old Serrano (11-0-1, 7 KOs), a native of Puerto Rico who is now fighting out of Brooklyn, will be attempting to become the first world champion in her family, as well as the Boxing 360 stable. Her older sister, Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano (15-3-2, 7 KOs), fights Anne Sophie Mathis (24-1, 21 KOs) on October 1 in France for the WIBA, WIBF and WBF welterweight championships. The sisters often spar together and somewhere down the road they may face each other in a fight.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – A little more than month after registering on national television the most significant victory of his young pro boxing career, undefeated 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius“Boo Boo” Andrade (14-0, 9 KOs) returns Wednesday, September 21 to headline the 10th annual Fight To Educate at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Andrade, fighting out of Providence, won a commanding, one-sided win by unanimous decision this past August 19th against The Contender, Season 2 winner Grady Brewer, winning nine of 10 rounds on all three of the judges’ scorecards. The 23-year-old Andrade, universally regarded as one of the top prospects in the world, has cracked the ratings at No. 3 in the North American Boxing Federation and No. 15 by the United States Boxing Association.
A year ago, the gifted light middleweight fought on the Fight To Educate card, stopping Dave Sanders in the second round. Andrade takes on former two-time world title challenger Saul “Baby” Duran (38-18-2, 31 KOs) in this year’s 10-round main event.
