GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS UNBEATEN PETER QUILLIN

THE NEW “KID CHOCOLATE” READY TO MAKE HIS MARK

LOS ANGELES – As soon as fight fans saw rising middleweight star Peter Quillin in the ring, they had no issues with him adopting the nickname of boxing legend and original “Kid Chocolate,” Eligio Sardinias. Now, the Brooklyn product will be taking another step towards building his own legacy as he has signed an exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions.

“It’s been a long road to get here, but now that I’m with Golden Boy Promotions and I can’t wait for the future,” said Quillin.  “I’m healthy, focused and ready to get back in the ring as soon as possible.  I know Golden Boy expects a lot out of me and I’m looking forward to following in Bernard Hopkins’ footsteps as the company’s next middleweight champion.”

“Peter Quillin has that rare mix of skill, charisma and desire, and you need all three to become a star in this game,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.  “He has all the tools and now it’s just a question of getting him in the right fights against the best in the world.  We know he’s ready for those challenges.”

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with the number one promoter in the world in Golden Boy Promotions,” said Quillin’s manager John Seip.  “We want to achieve Peter’s dream of becoming a World Champion and this is the perfect time in his career to team with Golden Boy Promotions.”

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, whose name became synonymous with the New York fight scene after his relocation to the Big Apple, 27-year-old Peter Quillin (21-0, 15 KO’s) adopted his “Kid Chocolate” nickname in tribute to the great Sardinias as well as his Cuban father and heritage, and he has lived up to expectations with his exciting performances.  He even thrills fans after the final bell thanks to his tradition of tossing chocolate candy into the crowd after each victory.  A five-year professional with wins over Antwun Echols, Dionisio Miranda and Sam Hill, Quillin was sidelined for nearly a year and a half due to a series of injuries.  He returned to the ring in February as if he never left, as he pounded out a ten-round win over respected veteran Fernando Zuniga.

Now training in Los Angeles with the renowned Freddie Roach, Quillin’s Golden Boy Promotions debut will be announced shortly.
