Really needing no introduction, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world and boxing’s biggest attraction will once again enter the ring to try and capture yet another world title. Canelo is the definition of a generational talent, who at 31 years old, has already solidified himself as a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Each time he enters the ring, we are granted the opportunity to witness history. Not only one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all time, but as he continues to dominate in multiple weight classes, he will continue to climb the ranks of all-time greats in the sport of boxing. It’s A CelebrationOn a date that is reserved for only the top fighter in the world, Canelo fans will be out in full come Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas. Previously a date where legends like Oscar De La Hoya, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Floyd Mayweather fought, Canelo now holds the torch and will take center stage during this festive weekend.

One challenge that all of Canelo’s rivals must face is the overwhelming pro-Canelo crowd that will be looking to rattle Bivol the second he begins his ring walk. This will be Canelo’s 8th time fighting around Cinco De Mayo and he’ll be looking to make it a perfect 8-0.Canelo’s CryptoniteAs powerful, calculated and durable Canelo proves to be, he has historically shown vulnerabilities against slick, strong jabbed fighters. Bivol possess all of these qualities and more. Many believe this could be Canelo’s toughest test since Floyd Mayweather Jr, the man who has given Canelo his one and only loss back in 2013.

To Canelo’s credit, he has now reached his physical prime and has shown that he can make adjustments throughout a fight. Bivol has won all of his fights via knockout or unanimous decision; meaning no opponent of his has ever led on any judges score card at the conclusion of a bout.Size MattersThroughout his career, Canelo has proven to be as fearless as they come. Jumping weight classes to fight the bigger champions – giving up height, weight and reach in many of his previous fights. Many wonder if doing so will eventually catch up to him. Bivol possess the height, reach and overall size advantage and will presumably utilize those characteristics to create complications for Canelo.

Though smaller, Canelo has historically been able to impose his will on larger fighters and find a way to come out victorious. The question whether Bivol can be the one to change this narrative is yet to be answered.Undisputed Déjà VuCanelo has been on a path of destruction, dethroning champion after champion and recently becoming undisputed at super middleweight (168). Now moving back up to light heavyweight to face Bivol; is it possible that we could witness Canelo conquer yet another division in the not-so-distant future?

Of course, we can’t look too far ahead as Bivol is undoubtably going to be an extremely difficult task for the pound-for-pound king but that won’t reframe us from utilizing our imagination. No fighter in history has become undisputed in two weight classes. Canelo is paving a way to reach heights that the sport of boxing has never seen. Steps to buy Pay-Per-View1  –  Sign up to DAZN via laptop, mobile or tablet
