Giovani Santillan Wants Big Name After Impressive Victory

SAN DIEGO, CA – Undefeated welterweight, Giovani Santillan (29-0, 16 KOS), picked up an impressive seventh round stoppage of Jeovannis Barraza (23-3, 15 KOs), as co-main event of ESPN’s televised bout from The Hanger in Costa Mesa, California, this past Saturday. With the win, Santillan is ready to take his career to the next level.

“This guy was tough, and my performance showed that I can compete with great fighters,” continued Santillan, who is co-promoted with Top Rank. “I know I had to fight a smart disciplined fight, and I think this bout showed my growth as a fighter. I’m ready to take on all big names at welterweight.”

Santillan is fighting in a historic division, the welterweight division, where some of the best fighters are campaigning.

“This was a great win for my career, and I’m very grateful to all of those involved in making this happen,” said Santillan. “I’m not one to call any one out, but I’m ready to take my career to the next level. I know I have great promoters and a great record, and I know they will get me the best fights possible. I’m just hoping to get a big name in the ring soon.”

“We believe in Giovani so much and can’t wait to see him get a chance against anyone of the big names at 147 pounds,” stated Alex Camponovo, Thompson Boxing’s general manager. “We are very proud of his latest performance, in which he dominated the fight and got the stoppage. It is all systems go for Giovanni from this point forward.”
